Michael Armstrong, PhD

Dr. Michael Armstrong is the Chief Technology Officer at Electric Power Systems. An industry leader in the field of hybrid-electric and distributed electric propulsion systems, he is responsible for the development of lightweight, certifiable battery technologies and innovative battery-based integrated propulsion systems. Prior to his role at EP Systems, Michael was the hybrid propulsion lead for Rolls-Royce LibertyWorks. He has led propulsion systems integration and design activities for multiple electrified aircraft propulsion programs and was the principal investigator on multiple electrified aircraft propulsion systems’ concept development programs. Michael is active in SAE’s Electric Aircraft Steering Group and AIAA’s Aircraft Electric Propulsion and Power Working Group. He holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and a master’s degree and Ph.D. in aerospace engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology
